Berlin is the third solo studio album by American (from New York) musician, singer, songwriter Lou Reed (He was the guitarist, singer and principal songwriter for the rock band the Velvet Underground in 1996), released in July 1973. Produced by Bob Erin. Berlin reached No. 7 on the UK album chart. The album is a tragic rock opera about a doomed couple, Jim and Caroline, and addresses themes of drug use, prostitution, depression, domestic violence and suicide.
