It was announced on 27 November 2015 in support of their seventh studio album, A Head Full of Dreams, and marked a return to live performing at stadiums following the intimate shows from Ghost Stories Tour - 2014)
  

A Head Full of Dreams is the seventh studio album by the British rock band Coldplay. It was released on December 4, 2015. Producer Rik Simpson - Stargate. It was a commercial success as it reached number one in the UK, and number two in the US, … At the 2016 Brit Awards the album was nominated for British Album of the Year.
