(The 1969 festival (two-day event took place on 30 and 31 August) was considerably larger and more popular than the previous year's. Dylan had been little heard of since his allegedly near-fatal motorcycle accident in July 1966 after have spent the previous three years in semi-retirement, making his first live appearance . Dylan was initially reluctant to perform his comeback show on the little-known Isle of Wight.)

(The 1969 festival,  two-day event took place on 30 and 31 August, was considerably larger and more popular than the previous year’s. The Who, one of the main attractions at the now legendary 1969 Isle of Wight Festival (August 30) - with an audience of about estimates of 150,000–250,000 people - presented their standard set at that time, which included the rock opera Tommy, as they had recently released that album and were touring in support of it. )

 

Tommy is the fourth studio album by English (from London) rock power pop band The Who, released on May 19, 1969. Primarily written by guitarist Pete Townshend, Tommy is a double album and an early rock opera that tells the story of the fictional Tommy Walker. Producer Kid Lambert. Tommy,a masterpiece, was originally released as a two-LP set with artwork designed by Mike McInnerney, which included a booklet including lyrics and images to illustrate parts of the story, and it was the first successful "extended work" in rock music. The album, acclaimed by critics, was commercially successful, reaching #2 in the UK album charts. It peaked at #7 in the US in 1969, but in 1970 it re-entered the charts, at which time it went on to peak at # 4.
